845 Sold The Vicar of Wakefield - Oliver Goldsmith - Illustrated 1886
The Vicar of Wakefield by Oliver Goldsmith with prefatory memoir by George Saintsbury. London: John C. Nimmo, 1886. Illustrated with 114 colour drawings. This is a wonderful old book of the famous book by Goldsmith who was born in Ireland in 1728 and died in London, England in 1774. He went to Trinity College and after some roamimg around the world Goldsmith arrived back in London in 1756 and became a prolific writer of anything that would pay money.  The Vicar of Wakefield when published increased his popularity and when he produced his first play, The Good Natur'd Man (1768), though the play was not a success, it was widely read in book-form. In 1770 came The Deserted Village, and three years after his dramatic masterpiece, She Stoops to Conquer, which was highly successful.
