074 Sold French Scarf Box - Circa 1890 - Paris - Stunning Museum Quality Piece

 

This Large French Box was made in France Circa 1890 and is quite the Masterclass in Construction and design. The Box was made to store a Ladies Collection of Scarfs (yes Scarfs!!,... France was a very Rich Country Circa 1890). Lets Start with the Wood and Inlay used in the Superb French Creation - Roswood is the dominant wood with Ebony, Mother of Pearl, Abalone Shell and Brass Inlay. The top of the Box is rimmed with a scalloped design and the box is  raised on 4 Turned Rosewood Bun feet. The Top and front open to reveal a fitted interior with large storage area above two drawers. The Original lock and working Key are present. It is very easy to run out of Superlatives with this Box and the design and Masterful finish would suggest that this Box was made for someone special with the initials 'MC' .... Just Maybe Maria Callas .
