Identical Pair of Chinese Export elaborately carved Cinnabar Lacquer Bottle Vases of outstanding quality and generous proportions, made during the last quarter of the Nineteenth Century. Guangxu Period 1875-1908.
The rounded bulbous body below a tall slender neck with flaired rim, ending on a polished brass circular spreading base support. The main body carved through deep layers of cinnabar lacquer depicting sectional floral and leaf foliage oval reserves all against a dense diapered ground, the base with Greek Key detailing. The interior of both are of mid blue enameling on bronze metal.
Measures: Height: (an impressive) 13” (33cm), Width: (at widest) 7" (18cm). Diameter: (base) 5” (12.5cm).
Condition: Superb condition with no losses except for a small dent to enamel well inside neck, also each has a hole at base underneath, don’t know why possibly never used. Polished brass bases have light staining. Back and front views are similar. This piece is typically unmarked, guaranteed to be of the period. Professionally cleaned and outer surfaces lightly oiled.
