Well Carved Hard Wood Chinese Standing Sage Figure (scholarly wise Man) of outstanding quality, his left hand holding a heavy book, the other holding an Oriental Umbrella. Last half of the Nineteenth Century, possibly Guangxu period (1875-1908.
Standing on a naturalistic square base the figure with a pointed beard and mustache is wearing a full length traditional Chinese Kimono or Gofuku billowing in the wind, tied at the waist with a long tie belt.
Condition: This piece is in exceptional condition, no losses to carvings, good surface patination in dark chocolate brown tone.
