Fine Quality Example of a Polished Brass and Tortoiseshell Inlaid Boulle Style Travelling Writing Slope made during the third quarter of the Nineteenth Century, of French origin.
The entire top area decorated with premier and contra-partie inlaid scrolling arabesques depicting intricacy, opulence and masterful craftsmanship, opening to reveal a mahogany fitted interior, complete with later brass capped ink bottles. Central cartouche of lid has initials J L.
Condition: Good condition with nice patination, no losses or lifting to metal or tortoiseshell. There are a few dents to lid, see lower right-hand corner. Lock and key are present and working. The leather inside has been replaced.
