'The Antiquarain', This is a really beautiful and appropriate Painting on Board by Oscar Schmitt (1825-1871) German. The painting is on Board and signed lower right. The Antiquare (The Antiquarian) is depicted exanining a piece of Silver which he may be dating from the assay marks (something all Antique dealers have to do regularly). The painting is in the original frame and dates to Circa 1860. Typical of Schmitt is the incredible detail in the painting, precision and superb brushwork.
