This brightly illustrated National Family Bible by Cassells and Company is in a full morocco binding, containing both the Old and New Testament, and with metal clasps in full working order .There are over 1200 pages and multiple Colour Plates. There are multiple black and white plates which are after the illustrations of famed French printmaker and artist Gustave Dore. This striking work was edited by Scottish theologian, Presbyterian minister and Biblical critic John Eadie, who was the Professor of Biblical Literature for the United Presbyterian Church. Present within this volume are the 'commentaries of Scott and Henry', and 'many thousand critical and explanatory notes'.This edition dates to circa 1880. In the original full morocco binding, with gilt detailing and full working metal clasps. Light rubbing to raised bands, spine head and tail, and joints. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very clean and bright. Plates exceptionally bright, and retaining their original tissue guards. This Bible incredibly has no owners names and in my opinion was very little used. This is a real find and after 140 years will hopefully find a family to fill in the pages where the owers names and picture can be placed.
