He was originally from Kolding in Jutland, but came&nbsp;to Copenhagen as a very young man, where he became an apprentice&nbsp;by the decoration sculptor&nbsp;H. Chr. Petersen and afterwards&nbsp;a pupil at Vermehren's&nbsp;painter's school and finally&nbsp;at the Academy of Arts in 1897. Travelling was made possible&nbsp;through scholarships&nbsp;and he studied in both&nbsp;Germany, Italy and France. He exhibited&nbsp;many places and received&nbsp;a gold medal&nbsp;at the World Fair in Bruxelles in 1910. The piece is stamped with the Juliana Maria Mark and has the reference number 12416.
