111 Pair of English Pâte sur Pâte Vases – Minton – Sevres
These are a very striking Pair of Pâte sur Pâte ornate Vases – They have superb detail with large decorated medallions depicting a lady playing an organ surrounded by cherubs playing instruments front and back with Celadon Backgrounds. The vases have multiple smaller medallions also with Celadon backgrounds depicting various musical instruments and musicians. The vases base colour is Imperial Yellow with intricate scroll detail. The Lion mask handles are gilded and the overall condition is excellent. The Lady playing the Organ design is a rare design and was produced by Minton and Sevres. Minton pâte-sur-pâte (paste on paste) is a highly specialized, late 19th-century English porcelain decoration technique where white slip is applied in successive layers to an unfired, coloured body to create a low-relief, cameo-like effect. They are very difficult to create and time consuming. These are possibly Minton dating to Circa 1910. Later applied Marble Bases.
