756 Chiparus – Flapper Dancer on marble and onyx base – Circa 1925
This is an impressive French piece by the famed Art Deco sculpture, Dh. Chiparus (1886-1947). This patinated metal flapper / dancer on marble and onyx base is signed ‘LULLIER’ on the metal. (Chiparus Pseudonym). It is now historically and technically established that the name Lullier (often signed R. Lullier) was one of the primary pseudonyms used by the artist Demetre Chiparus. This choice was personal, as it was the maiden name of his wife, Julienne Lullier. The use of this alias served a specific commercial strategy: it allowed Chiparus to distribute his models through secondary foundries, such as Reveyrolis, while honoring exclusivity contracts held under his own name with prestigious houses like Etling or Les Neveux de J. Lehmann. Please note dimensions – Large size. Excellent condition and patina.
