788 Superb Pair French Table Centre Pieces Circa 1880
These are a Superb Pair of French King Pine Porcelain Table Centre Pieces dating to Circa 1880. The tiered bodies are raised on 3 seated Lions with a silver finish. They are profusely gilded in Gold which is beautifully applied. The pieces have a Pineapple supported with elongated leaf decoration. Historically, the pineapple symbolized extreme wealth, luxury and hospitality. Introduced to Europe in 1493, its rarity meant a single fruit could cost thousands in today’s money, leading to its use as a “King Pine” status symbol, a decorative centerpiece at elite parties. These were definitely made for an elite party and would make a major luxury statement on any dining table or sideboard.
