Description
This is a superb and rare Bronze after the original by the famed Italian sculptor, Antonio Canova. This statue of Napoleon on Horseback dates to Circa 1850 and is wonderfully cast and raised on a superbly crafted walnut plinth detailing the famous battles of Napoleon’s reign. The Plinth also states in French how France (Napoleon) fought all of Europe on its own and was specifically created for this sculpture and as such is a one off. The numbered tag may relate to the fact that it was once part of an important collection and research on the provenace suggests that it may have been part of Napoloeon lll own collection. Christies and Sothebys have both confirmed the authenticity of this piece and I was fortunate to locate it here in Dublin where it formed part of an impressive Bronze Sculpture collection.
