855 Antique Grand Tour Barbedienne style Bronze Urn Circa 1870

Antique Grand Tour patinated bronze urn in the Barbedienne style and dating from around 1870. The body of this piece is cast with a ribbon and floral garland frieze which is centred by a series of ox-skull maskheads. The bronze urn is further mounted with a pair of classical male figural handles. This fine bronze urn is raised on an attractive fluted and laurel wreath pedestal situated on a square marble plinth base. This antique bronze urn was hot cast in solid bronze using the traditional "lost wax" process, otherwise known as the "cire perdue" method and the standard of craftsmanship is right up there with the best. This bronze urn is not only in the style of Barbedienne but also to the high standard of workmanship employed by that master of bronze casting.This is a truly stunning and large Bronze and a very rare design.
